1.There are a total of 6,469,952 Spots in the film
Counting all of the spots frame by frame totaled to 6,469,952 throughout the entire film. 72 belong to Pongo, 68 to Perdita, and the puppies each have 32.
2.The story is based on author, Dodie Smith’s own experience
Dodie Smith, the author who wrote the book the film was based on and nine Dalmatians, one of which was named Pongo. The birth of fifteen puppies that happened in the film actually happened to her as well. She was inspired to write the book when one of her friends noted that “those dogs would make a lovely fur coat.”
3. All the dog barks in the film were voiced by a human.
The dog barks in the film were not recorded by an animal, but were actually recorded by Clarence Nash who famously voiced Donald Duck.
4. Only six of the puppies have names
Out of Pongo and Perdita’s fifteen puppies, only six of them were named in the film. Lucky, Rolly, Patch, Penny, Pepper, and Freckles.
5. The live-action model for Cruella de Vil voiced another Disney character
Mary Wickes, who served as the reference model for Cruella de Vil also voiced Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Barbara Luddy, who played Nanny also voiced Lady from Lady and the Tramp and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty
6. 800 gallons of paint was used during the production
Artists used over 800 gallons of special paint while they were producing the film’s animation cels and backgrounds. That’s enough paint to cover about 15 football fields.
