Take a Look Back with Our 2017 Book-to-Movie Year in Review

A Monster Calls

Release Date: January 6, 2017
Domestic Gross: $3,740,823
Worldwide Gross: $47,309,313
Audience rating: 7.5/10 (IMDb); 82% (Rotten Tomatoes); 76 (Metacritic)

According to reviewer Nat, the Geek Girl, the actors did wonderfully in fleshing out their characters, especially Lewis MacDougall as the precocious, yet vulnerable Conor. He’s a talented actor that knows how to express the emotions of his character.

Both Felicity Jones as Conor’s loving yet ill mother and Sigourney Weaver as his stoic grandmother give their usual outstanding performances in supporting roles. Both MacDougall and Jones were given 9 out of 10 for their performances.

Favorite scenes were “when the monster first appears to Conor, when the monster makes Conor confront his fear.”
