UPDATE: Alec Baldwin Drops Out of JOKER Movie as Thomas Wayne

Update: According to EW, Alec Baldwin has dropped out of the project just days after signing on.

Surprise! Thomas Wayne will play a role in the new JOKER movie.

Alec Baldwin is headed to the DC Entertainment universe thanks to the upcoming Joker solo movie.

According to Variety, Baldwin has signed on to the project to portray Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne aka Batman. Audiences are familiar with the character, but we usually don’t see him alive unless it’s his murder scene. Hopefully, we won’t be seeing that scene again and we’ll get to know the character instead.

There’s no word on whether or not the addition of Thomas Wayne means that the film will also feature a young Bruce Wayne.

The film, which will not be attached to any existing movie mythology, will star Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character alongside Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron and more. It’s due to start filming next month and will hit theaters sometime in 2019.
