Mozart in the Jungle creator and writer Alex Timbers is in negotiations to direct the live-action version of DIsney’s CRUELLA.

It looks like Disney has found a director for another live-action film Cruella, which is reboot (for lack of a better term) of the animated film 101 Dalmations. The director in question is writer/producer/director Alex Timbers, whose most recent project, Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle, has garnered an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

This remake already has Emma Stone signed on for the title role. Jez Butterworth has written the most recent copy of the screenplay, with Andrew Gunn producing.

Although 101 Dalmations was already made into a live-action film back in 1996, the recent success of such reboots, including one in which the villain is given more depth (think Maleficent), has inspired Disney to continue its trend.

Timbers is also known for his work on Broadway, co-directing the Tony nominated Peter and the Starcatcher, Gutenberg! The Musical!, and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, which he co-wrote.

His series Mozart in the Jungle was just nominated for a secondĀ Golden Globe in Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, as well as a nomination for lead actor Gael Garcia Bernal.
