Alfonso Cuaron Denies He’ll Be Directing ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

Alfonso Cuaron has responded to the rumors that have been swirling which link him to the upcoming big screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, instead stating his immediate plans involve his children and personal summer itinerary.

“My near-term plans over the coming months are to take my kids to school and plan what I’m going to do this summer with them. Now, I’m once again connecting with life, I have no plans of any kind,” Cuaron told Efe in the Italian town of Pietrasanta in Tuscany.

U.S. media reported in recent days the possibility that Cuaron might direct the Harry Potter spinoff saga “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which is currently in the pre-production phase.

“It was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don’t attract me. I’m coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit,” the director said.

How do you feel about this?  Had you hoped Cuaron would be involved in another Potter-related project?
