All Hail Dylan O’Brien, King of Stunts!- The ‘Scorch Trials’ Cast Shed Light On Their Stunts

By now, we’ve all seen the promo pictures for Wes Ball’s ‘The Scorch Trials‘, the second instalment in James Dashner’s ‘The Maze Runner‘ trilogy, and we’ve taken in the rising sand dunes and dilapidated cities that litter ‘The Scorch’. Thanks to MTV’s YouTube channel, we got to hear what our intrepid Gladers had to say about the stunts they had to perform.

Dylan O’Brien and Ki Hong Lee (Thomas and Minho) were considered, by their co-stars, to be the most athletic of the cast, whereas Kaya Scodelario (Theresa, and best known for her role as Effy on Channel 4’s ‘Skins’) considered herself the laziest. But, with a cast full of gentlemen, they helped her get through it.

“The sand just makes you stay still. It’s like a cartoon- your legs just move, but your body doesn’t…You just sink lower and lower…”- Kaya Scodelario on running up sand dunes

Dylan O’Brien was hailed by his co-star Dexter Darden (Frypan) to be ‘a freak athlete’, which is no surprise to loyal fans of the MTV heartthrob. O’Brien is famously known as a huge fan of the New York Mets baseball team, as well as a player of the game himself. The term ‘riding their coat tails’ was used when trying to figure out how to look cool while running, which is pretty important in a movie where there’s a lot of running. O’Brien had been quoted in the past on how he didn’t like jogging, but loved to sprint.

All the cast members present in the video were in full costume, along with various injuries that they must’ve sustained while trying to complete their two-week journey through The Scorch before they contracted the incredibly-contagious ‘Flare’. However, their smiles and laughs reassure us that they are at full running capacity and are ready to run for their lives.

Despite the tiring hours, exhausting stunts, and dirty make-up, the cast seem to be in high spirits about the second instalment in the trilogy, which is due to be released into cinemas on the 18th of September this year. Unlike the first movie, this one is to include the talents of Aiden Gillen (‘Little Finger’ on Game of Thrones as Janson), Giancarlo Esposito (as Jorge), Katherine McNamara (as Sonya), and Jacob Lofland (as Aris). However, the familiar faces of Ava Paige (Patricia Clarkson) and Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) will be there to grace the screen with distaste and delight.

Just spoil yourself by looking at this photo. You know you want to… (Dylan O’Brien as Thomas)
