Amandla Stenberg joins another popular YA adaptation!
Amandla Stenberg has been cast in the leading role of Fox’s adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s YA trilogy, The Darkest Minds.
Stenberg is known for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games and has since starred in As You Are. She was also recently cast in another YA film adaptation, Everything Everything based on the book by Nicola Yoon.
The Darkest Minds takes place after a pandemic kills most of America’s children. After survivors develop special abilities, they are deemed too dangerous for society and are taken from their families and placed in internment camps. The first book in the series follows 16 year old Ruby Daly who has telekinetic powers. She escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.
The film is being directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson. This will be her live-action directorial debut as she is best known for her work on the Kung Fu Panda movies.
