Amber Heard Circling Female Lead In AQUAMAN Movie

Amber Heard in negotiations to play AQUAMAN’s Mera!

Warner Bros is reportedly in talks with actress Amber Heard for the role of Mera in the expanded DC Comics Universe. If everything goes well, the actress will reportedly make an appearance in Justice League in 2017 (hence the early casting) before starring alongside Jason Momoa in Aquaman in 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the comics, Mera is an undersea queen who– other than living and breathing underwater– has the ability to control and solidify water, as well as super strength. She is Aquaman’s major love interest and the two even get married and form a family in some incarnations of their story.

The Aquaman solo project is still in the screenwriting phase, with writers David Leslie Johnson and Kurt Johnstad working on two separate scripts for consideration. The Conjuring director James Wan has signed on to helm the project. The film is slated to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.

Amber Heard has previously starred in The Danish Girl, Magic Mike XXL, and Pineapple Express. She’ll soon be seen in crime thriller London Fields.
