Angela Lansbury Joins MARY POPPINS RETURNS

Angela Lansbury will bring some classic old school performing to MARY POPPINS RETURNS!

Legendary performer Angela Lansbury is the latest actress to join the cast of Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns!

According to Deadline, the 91-year-old actress joins the production as “Balloon Lady”. The size of the role has not been disclosed, but both the original Mary Poppins and the sequel feature some characters without actual names.

Lansbury joins a cast that is a charming mix of new and old, bringing in newer talent while respecting the franchise’s roots. So far, that cast includes Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, and Dick Van Dyke.

Mary Poppins Returns introduces three new Banks children and is set in Depression-era 1930s London (the time period of the original novels) and follows Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) now all grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

Mary Poppins Returns will hit theaters on December 25, 2018.
