YA Authors Team Up With BookCon For #SaveIndieBookstores Virtual Fundraiser

As COVID-19 is affecting all of us, but its an especially hard hit for small business owners and their employees who question whether they’ll be able to stay afloat in the long term following the global repercussions for the pandemic.

Among these small businesses are the beloved indie bookstores that introduce us to new stories and authors right in the comfort of our own communities. Now, storytellers are giving back to these independent stores through an 8+ hour read-a-thon fundraiser happening tomorrow, sponsored by BookCon!

Over 30 authors including favorites like Ransom Riggs, Marie Lu, Victoria Aveyard, Tahereh Mafi, Soman Chainani, and Melissa de la Cruz will each take the (virtual) stage for about 15 minutes for a reading and/or presentation in support of Save Indie Bookstores, a charitable effort that will help these stores pay rent and bills, as well as cover employees’ pay and insurance premiums.

You can check out the full schedule for the livestream, including when your favorite authors will be on, via the BookCon website. The livestream itself will take place in the BookCon Facebook group.

Can’t make the livestream? You can still help save the livelihoods of indie booksellers by donating what you can to Save Indie Bookstores via this link.
