Awesomeness Films Acquires Rights to SPONTANEOUS

A book about Spontaneous combustion among teens is going to be made into a movie by Awesomeness Films.

Spontaneous, a book by Aaron Starmer, isn’t out in bookstores yet, but that didn’t stop Awesomeness Films from nabbing the film rights for it.  Producing the project will be Brian Robbins (“The Royals,” Before I Fall), Matt Kaplan (The Lazarus Effect, Before I Fall), Brian Duffield (The Babysitter), and Nicki Cortese.  Duffield, who co-wrote Lionsgate’s Insurgent, will also be writing the screenplay for the movie.

Awesomeness Films seems like it’s trying to make its mark in YA adaptations, much like Lionsgate did, as they’ve finished production on the adaptation of Lauren Oliver’s Before I Fall standalone novel.  It also obtained the rights to film Replica, which is another YA product of Oliver’s.
