After Whedon’s departure, WB has a new storyteller for BATGIRL!
Warner Bros.’ Batgirl movie is back on track once again thanks to a new script in the works from Christina Hodson, who also wrote the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.
Avengers director Joss Whedon was originally set to write and direct the film, but backed out around the same time that allegations of past inappropriate on-set behavior came out, citing trouble coming up with a story.
After Whedon’s departure, there was a social media push for a female writer to take on Barbara Gordon’s story, with the likes of Roxane Gay offering to meet with WB to discuss potential story lines.
Hodson has previous experience writing Barbara Gordon thanks to a Birds of Prey script she was hired to write in late 2016 that is now in Warner Bros.’s ever-expanding “in development” pile. She also wrote a treatment for the studio’s possible Harley Quinn solo movie.
The Batgirl movie isn’t projected to hit theaters until at least 2021.
