BLACK LIGHTNING: Season 1 Recap & Villain News

BLACK LIGHTNING will bring the pain in Season 2!

Season 1 of Black Lightning saw high school principal Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) taking up his long-abandoned mantle as the superhero Black Lightning to save his daughters and fight for his community. Along the way, he gets entangled in a much bigger conspiracy at play– one that will change the metahuman landscape forever.

Check out a recap of the first season, featured at the top of the post, which shows off Jefferson’s electric powers, the Pierce family dynamic, and baddie Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III)!

One character briefly shown in the trailer is Khalil Payne (Jordan Calloway), a friend and love interest of Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain) who was wheelchair bound after getting caught in the crossfire of an unrelated shooting. Khalil offers himself up to Tobias’ experiments in order to walk again, gaining meta-strength and the ability to temporarily paralyze others with pulse darts.

Khalil may seem conflicted about his powers in Season 1, but that’s sure to change in Season 2!

Jordan Calloway has been upped to a series regular for Season 2 as Khalil evolves into the villainous Painkiller. He’s set to go head-to-head with the Pierce family, but we imagine there will still be plenty of emotional conflict in that.

“I’m thrilled to have Jordan upped as a series regular,” executive producer Salim Akil said at the Comic-Con panel. “He was a great asset to our show in the role of Khalil/Painkiller during season one, and now that he has evolved into Painkiller, I can’t wait for you all to see him in season two.”

Black Lightning Season 2 premieres on October 9, 2018.
