Book Review: Kresley Cole Offers ARCANA CHRONICLES Hints and Backstory In DAY ZERO

Get big new details on the ARCANA CHRONICLES in DAY ZERO companion novel!

Kresley Cole is dishing out tons of new information about the characters of the Arcana Chronicles in Day Zero, but the new release may not be quite what you’re expecting. Originally advertised as a novella, Day Zero is more of a companion book. Or perhaps a short story collection? Either way, we think fans are going to be pretty psyched about what they find inside!

The book’s introduction offers an interesting morsel from Kresley Cole herself: This guide was created as she worked on a screenplay adaptation. With the series optioned by Warner Bros TV, you’re not only getting some extra details on secondary characters. This backstory could easily play its way into any future adaptations.

Day Zero provides a short background on the history of the Arcana before diving into the individual players. There’s a one-sheet that listed each player’s name, Arcana card details, powers, and details of the their life before the apocalyptic event known as The Flash, among other things. For some (but not all) characters, we also get a short story following their lives on the day of The Flash aka “day zero.” These vignettes provide big, previously unknown details: Who was aware of their powers and who wasn’t, who had a Chronicler or Tarasova training them for the big event, what brought them to the battle field of America originally, and who was hooking up with whom before the game even started. All of it could have huge implications on the series moving forward.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Kresley Cole is giving away all the details! There are some BIG omissions that will lead to theories and questions, particularly a redacted profile of one Major Arcana member we haven’t met yet. There’s also a full round of backstory on Evie’s ragin’ Cajun love interest Jackson Derveaux that’s sure to give you some feels and spark rumors!

If you’re the companion book type and you’re looking for something to tide you over until the release of the fourth book in the series, Arcana Rising, is out on August 15th, you’re going to love this one. It will pique your curiosity about the series and enhance your attachment to all the characters going forward for maximum anxiety and heartbreak enjoyment. So discover the prophecies, survival stories, and big beginnings in Day Zero, out now!
