Bryan Singer’s X-MEN TV Pilot Nabs First Mutant

X-MEN television pilot announces its first signed actor and original character!

The new X-Men television pilot headed to Fox has found its first actor!

According to EW, Blair Redford (Switched At Birth, Satisfaction) joins the yet-to-be-titled project as Sam, “the strong-headed Native American leader of the underground network.” The actor has some Native American ancestry and previously played a Native American character on The Lying Game.

Sam is not a character from the comics, but showrunner Matt Nix has previously said that adapting the show for television requires some original material.

“There is a certain amount of those characters that I can use and I’m using some of those. Other characters I’m inventing but everything is invented with a nod to the existing mythology.”

The show follows a family who discovers their child has mutant powers and soon finds themselves on the run from the government with an underground league of mutants. Nix will serve as the showrunner throughout if the pilot is picked up for a series, but veteran (and critically polarizing) X-Men director Bryan Singer will direct the pilot.
