CAPTAIN AMERICA Breaks April Box Office Record, DIVERGENT Crosses $100 Million Mark

Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier dominated the weekend box office, with early estimates suggesting it took in $96 million over the weekend, breaking the April opening weekend record previously held by Fast Five since 2011.  Earning over $300 million worldwide, the sequel has now earned almost as much as the first Captain America film did in it’s entire run.

Last week’s number one film, Noah, came in second, and Divergent holds the number three spot.  Domestically, Divergent has earned an estimated $114 million, crossing the impressive $100 million mark earlier this week. Reported worldwide earnings for the film have it at $136 million; however it opened in a number of European markets this past week whose numbers aren’t out yet, so we imagine that number is going to go up soon!  See below for this weekend’s top 10 from Box Office Mojo
