Cate Shortland Set To Direct BLACK WIDOW Standalone

Marvel signs director Cate Shortland for its BLACK WIDOW solo movie!

After weeks of rumors, Lore and The Berlin Syndrome director Cate Shortland is officially set to helm the Black Widow standalone film for Marvel!

According to Variety, Marvel met with more than 70 directors for the project, which is being scripted by Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle, TiMER). Shortland was reportedly an “early favorite”.

Shortland’s resume may be a bit quieter than other directors, but the same could have been said for Joe and Anthony Russo before the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so we’ll trust Marvel for now.

Details of the film still remain unknown, including when it will actually be set. All we know for certain is that current Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson will star, which probably means we’re not going for a significantly younger version of the character. However, fans have been gunning to see Natasha Romanoff get her own on-screen adventure for quite some time now, so we imagine they’ll be plenty excited either way.

The Black Widow film is still in development and does not have a release window quite yet.
