Two new stars have been cast in Catherine Hardwicke’s STARGIRL!
The movie adaptation of Jerry Spinelli’s touching Young Adult novel Stargirl has found its leads!
In a bout of surprisingly age appropriate casting, 16-year-old Joey King (Fargo, The Conjuring) will play “Stargirl”, a whimsical, previously home-schooled high school student who initially captures the hearts of her classmates.. until the social tide turns harshly against her. Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire) will play the story’s narrator, Leo, who is enchanted by Stargirl and with the best of intentions, tries to help her blend in once she’s singled out for being different.
Stargirl will be directed by Twilight and Lords of Dogtown director Catherine Hardwicke with a script by Kristin Hahn, a Hollywood producer taking on the adaptation process for the first time.
From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, hallways hum “Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’s heart with one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. Until they are not. Leo urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her – normal.
