Melissa Benoist will headline CBS’ contribution to the rival of female superheroes.
After a whole lot of hype, CBS finally had found its Supergirl in Melissa Benoist.
The young actress has already solidified her television presence with a current role on GLEE. She’s almo gained some Hollywood acclaim for roles in WHIPLASH and the upcoming Nicholas Spark adaptation, THE LONGEST RIDE.

The eponymous series centers on Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who escaped from Krypton amid the planet’s destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous relative. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
The DC Comics-based show will be headed up by ARROW and THE FLASH producer Greg Berlanti and has been promised a series commitment by CBS starting in September.
SUPERGIRL is yet another step in the resurgence of female superheroes in charge, following shortly after Marvel’s AGENT CARTER starring Hayley Atwell and soon to be followed by the JESSICA JONES series starring Krysten Ritter. Of course, we’re also have lots of fun with Black Widow and Wonder Woman hitting the big screen!
