Korean-American actor Charles Melton will star opposite Yara Shahidi in the movie adaptation of THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR.
If you fell in love with Daniel Bae in the Nicola Yoon novel The Sun is Also a Star, then you’re sure to fall in love with the actor who’ll play Daniel in the movie version. The reason we say so is because the Korean-American character is going to be played by Korean-American actor Charles Melton.

Charles Melton, who plays Reggie Mantle in the hit CW series Riverdale, will play the love interest of Yara Shahidi’s character, Natasha, who meets Daniel for the first time on the day before she’s to be deported with her family to Jamaica.
The book became another national bestseller for Yoon, whose first novel, Everything, Everything, was also turned into a feature film, which starred Amandla Stenberg (The Darkest Minds) and Nick Robinson (Love, Simon).
Melton was also seen in Fox’s Glee and FX’s American Horror Story. Along this being his first major role, it will be his first feature film.
The screenplay was written by Girls Trip screenwriter Tracy Oliver and will be directed by Before I Fall director Ry Russo-Young. It’s set to hit theaters May 17, 2019.
