Chloe Moretz signs on to play the main protagonist in Universal’s production of The Little Mermaid live-action movie
The latest news on the Universal production is that the talented Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz has signed on to play The Little Mermaid, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Richard Curtis, who wrote and directed Love Actually as well as wrote War Horse and Bridget Jones’s Diary, is currently in talks to write the script.
They’re still looking for a director for the film as Sofia Coppola had left due to creative differences.
If you’re unfamiliar with the story, The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, and it has a far more bittersweet ending than the one that Disney so lovingly created for it’s animated musical. However, there’s no confirmation as to if they are planning on going exactly for the same ending as the original fairy tale.
Along with Kick-Ass and its sequel Kick-Ass 2, Chloe Moretz has been in a number of movies, including Hugo, Carrie (2013), Clouds of Sils Maria, and the movie adaptation of Gayle Forman’s YA novel If I Stay. She’ll be seen in the upcoming films, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, November Criminals, Brain on Fire, and another adaptation of a YA novel, The 5th Wave.
