Christopher Nolan Offered Film Adaptation of YA Novel READY PLAYER ONE

I found this so coincidentally crazy that this book, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline,  that I’ve not heard about until another YA author mentioned it at her signing is talked about the very same day regarding the movie adaptation of it.  Or maybe it’s just me not being able to keep up with all of the awesome books that have been coming out.

For those of you who have already read the book, this is probably some pretty amazing news, as author Marie Lu (Legend, The Young Elites) had stated as such about the book just earlier today.  Warner Bros. has offered Christopher Nolan dibs on directing the Ready Player One movie.  Here’s the synopsis:

“In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.”

It sounds it could be something that’s right up Christopher Nolan’s alley, and I’m sure he could do some pretty fantastic stuff with the concept, especially with the idea of virtual reality. However, not having yet read the book myself, I’m hesitant to agree to the idea of Nolan being the one.  But for those of you who have read the book, what do you think of this offer that Warner Bros. has made?
