Colossus Actor Joins X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, But His Role Remains A Mystery

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX may feature a new role for Colossus actor!

When Daniel Cudmore, who made his mark on the X-Men universe as Colossus in The Last Stand and Days of Future Past, joined the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, many assumed he’d be reprising the role of Colossus, even though it was never confirmed.

However, a recent tweet from Cudmore suggests that may not be the case. When asked which character he’d be playing, he replied:

I can't comment on what character I'm playing, sorry.. https://t.co/WSEJkVsm6Z

This, of course, has led to a frenzy of speculation. SlashFilm suspects he may be playing Gladiator, described as “a similarly-jacked alien being who serves as the leader of the Imperial Guard of the Shi’ar Empire.” He’s one of the Guardsmen charged with destroying Phoenix after she takes over the body of Jean Gray (portrayed by Sophie Turner,) posing a deadly threat to the universe.

Cudmore could be simply toying with audiences, but a new character for makes sense after Deadpool produced a very popular version of Colossus not portrayed by the actor. He was offered the motion capture role in Deadpool, but turned it down because the production planned to dub his voice. Stefan Kapicic provided Colossus’ voice in the movie with a series of doubles and stunt extras did the mo-cap work instead.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is due out on November 2, 2018.
