Marvel Studios has confirmed that CAPTAIN MARVEL will center around the superhero’s origin story.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege recently revealed that the upcoming film will tell the story of how Carol Danvers becomes the beloved Captain Marvel herself.
[Black] Panther is not really an origin story, since we saw him already in Civil War. But his standalone certainly introduces you to 99% of his world that you never saw. And Captain Marvel is certainly an origin. It’s an origin story from the start.
Interestingly enough, screenwriter Nicole Perlman revealed that a lot of her story will be reinvented. This begs the question of how closely they’ll actually be sticking to the comics:
There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen. And also, she’s her own person and she’s a great character. We have to be aware of what’s happened in other Marvel film and makes sure that her particular storyline is unique and fun and also fits in within this world that’s going on at the same time. It’s a little bit of an interesting story gauntlet.
Oscar-winner Brie Larson will be playing the lead in the upcoming film.
