BLACK LIGHTNING strikes down the competition in blazing first trailer!

The CW Upfronts brought fans of the network’s DC superhero shows something to cheer about: The first trailer for the latest addition to the lineup, Black Lightning!

Cress Williams stars as Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning, a superhero with the ability to manipulate electrical currents, control force fields, and even do a bit of flying. He hung up his superhero suit long ago in favor of becoming a principal, but as times change–- particularly when a star student joins a gang and his teen daughter finds herself in trouble. Jefferson realizes Black Lightning is needed once again.

The trailer is narrated by one of Jefferson’s daughters, Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) and reveals that she and her sister, Jennifer (China Anne McClain) will have some abilities of their own contribute!

You might recognize some familiar locations, as it seems the show used sets from The Flash, like Barry’s lab and CC Jitters, for the pilot.

Though Greg Berlanti is a producer on the show, Black Lightning is not part of the typical CW “Arrowverse”. Of course, with The Flash‘s multiverse theory in play, the show could still cross over with the other heroes now and again.

Black Lightning doesn’t have a premiere date quite yet, but look out for a fall or early winter start.
