Watch Daisy Ridley In Trailer For YA Adaptation OPHELIA

HAMLET gets a new perspective and a sharp twist in OPHELIA!

Daisy Ridley is taking charge of the narrative on tragic female characters in the trailer for her next film, Ophelia!

Based on the YA novel by Lisa Klein, this film is bound to cause some controversy with diehard Shakespeare fans. It will show the events of Hamlet from Ophelia’s perspective, complete with a Shakespearean-era look but more modern dialogue. It will show the forbidden romance blossoming between Hamlet and Ophelia, but reveals that the lady-in-waiting is far less tragic and far more cunning than anyone ever gave her credit for.

Watch the trailer (via Empire) at the top of the post to see Ophelia and Hamlet’s love story start… only to be thrown into madness as the kingdom falls apart.

The film also stars Naomi Watts, Clive Owen, Tom Felton, and George McKay, among others.

Ophelia was released on the festival circuit and picked up by IFC Films. It will get a limited release in US cinemas on June 28th, followed by an On Demand release on July 3rd.
