We don’t always understand to decisions made by movie studios or record labels, but this new take on a popularized fandom tune has us particularly baffled: Republic Records has released an official dance remix to ‘Deep In The Meadow’ from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.
‘Deep In The Meadow’ holds a special place in the hearts of many Hunger Games fans. Katniss hums the tune to Prim just before her initial reaping and sings it to Rue as the young girl slowly dies from a gruesome wound in the Katniss’ first Hunger Games. The lullaby also plays a special part in the Mockingjay book and film, giving us a sweet, poignant moment.
Jennifer Lawrence recorded the song for the final film and, much like her recording of ‘The Hanging Tree’, the decision was made to create an official dance remix. You can listen below!
Clearly, we’re struggling with the new sound, as it doesn’t exactly capture the essence of the series. Still, ‘The Hanging Tree’ hit No. 12 on the Billboard Top 100 and sold quite well, so it looks like the record label is trying to bottle some more of that corporate magic.
In case you want to hear the original, check out this track from the original. ‘Deep In The Meadow’ beings around the 1:40 mark.
