Benj Pasek and Justin Paul announced that they would be collaborating with Alan Menken to write new songs for the live-action remake of Aladdin starring Mena Massoud as the title character, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Will Smith as Genie. They have now revealed more details on their songs for the film.
The duo told Variety that they’ve written a new song for Jasmine and a duet for Aladdin and Jasmine. They seem especially excited about the former, with Paul adding “Alan wrote a beautiful piece of music and [Scott] is incredible.”
They’ve also added a new verse to the animated version’s introductory song, “Arabian Nights”.
The songwriting duo have written some beautiful songs having worked on La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen. I can’t wait to hear what they’ve come up with!
Aladdin is scheduled for a May 24, 2019 release.
