MORTAL ENGINES revs to life in its first teaser trailer!

Peter Jackson is back with his first major project since The Hobbit trilogy and even though he’s not in the director’s seat, it’s easy to see his influence all over the newly introduced world.

Based on the steampunk series by Philip Reeve, Mortal Engines follows Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan,) who lives in a world where whole municipalities travel around the globe on mechanized wheels and gears. These “Traction Cities” literally battle and consume each other in the fight of Earth’s last resources. Tom’s life is changed when he meets an Outlands rebel named Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar) who introduces him to the muddy civilization left in the tracks of such grand cities.

Watch the trailer above to get your first glimpse of Hester and her convoy as they come face-to-face with the massive roving city of London.

An official plot description for the project was also released.

Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

Mortal Engines is due out on December 14, 2018.
