Just on the heels of the news that Alfre Woodard had joined the cast of Disney’s re-imagining of The Lion King, we learned of another actor lending his voice to the film. John Kani will portray Rafiki, the baboon who serves as royal adviser to Mufasa. Robert Guillaume voiced the character in the original 1994 animated film.
Kani was last seen in Captain America: Civil War as King T’Chaka, father of Black Panther. He will also appear in the upcoming Marvel film, Black Panther.
The Lion King is scheduled to hit theaters July 19, 2019.
