DOC SAVAGE movie in the works with Dwayne Johnson in the starring role!
Dwayne Johnson is officially on board to play Doc Savage, the oldie comics favorite from the 1930s and 1940s who is often referred to as “the original superhero,” in a new film from Iron Man 3 director Shane Black.
“Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women’s perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything,” said Johnson in a huge Instagram statement. “But here’s the #1 reason I’m excited to become Doc Savage.. HE’S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!”
The actor also pointed out that Clark “Doc” Savage Jr also heavily inspired the character of Superman– to the point where it probably would have inspired a lawsuit, nowadays– “First name Clark, called ‘Man of Bronze’, retreats to his ‘Fortress of Solitude’ in the Arctic etc etc.” Savage is often referred to as “superman” by his friends and colleagues, as well.
From his Instagram post, it’s clear to see that the actor is psyched about his new role.

Director Shane Black previously stated that he was holding out on the project specifically for Johnson, saying this back in March to Thrillist: “I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.”
The Doc Savage movie is set to begin filming in early 2017.
