After a long search, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY has found its Spock!
The imminent arrival of a young Spock was hinted at heavily in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, but with so many famous portrayals out there, the team behind the show didn’t take casting the character again lightly.
The Vulcan family has had a strong presence on Discovery, with Spock’s adopted sister Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is the show’s main character and his father, Sarek (James Frain), plays a major role. Spock himself was introduced as the Chief Science Officer of Captain Christopher Pike (Aston Mount), but Spock had just left when Pike met the others.
Thanks to THR, we now know that Ethan Peck will take up the mantle as Spock in Season 2.
“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion and yearning,” said showrunner Alex Kurtzman. “Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”
After the announcement, Ethan shared a photo with the family of original Spock actor Leonard Nimoy, who welcomed him into the role with open arms.
Peck has previously had roles in Freeform’s 10 Things I Hate About You series, In Time, and fandom series I Ship It. He’s also the grandson of screen legend Gregory Peck.
Star Trek: Discovery is expected to return in January 2019.
