Sara Wolf bargains control of one heart for another in BRING ME THEIR HEARTS!
Lovely Vicious trilogy author Sara Wolf is diving into a new fantasy world while keeping her characters as razor-sharp as ever in Bring Me Their Hearts!
The novel follows Zera, a “heartless” who unwillingly does the bidding of the witch Nightsinger after having her heart stolen. When Nightsinger longs for a new heart– that of Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane– she makes a deal with Zera: If Zera infiltrates the royal palace and steals Lucien’s heart, Nightsinger will set her free. However, if she’s identified as one of Nightsinger’s soldiers, Zera’s heart will be destroyed and she’ll die. Let the cat and mouse game begin.
In an exclusive excerpt from Bring Me Their Hearts thanks to Entangled Teen, we see Zera in action, chasing down a thief called Whisper. But discovers something much different than she expected about the petty criminal once she catches up to him. Take a look!
The thief turns his head my way. The moment he sees me, life kicks up its speed, and he takes off again. As I follow him, out of breath and half in stitches, I realize this is a path with a very specific pattern. He takes it often—and he knows this city like it’s his limb. I can’t cut him off, but I can catch up at the very least. I shove all my energy left into my legs and double my speed. He looks back only once, his dark eyes widening at how close I am.
I reach my fingertips out to his shoulder, so very close –
He spins away at the last second, and I stumble. When I look up again, he’s gone. There are at least four paths he could’ve disappeared down. My brain says he went to the next alley, but my gut tells me he’s stopped, just over the wall to my left. I grab the pipe system grafted into the wall and pull myself up and over with the last of my strength. I land on shaky legs and see him standing there, poised in a fighting stance.
“You,” he hisses, panting.
“M-Me!” I exclaim, fully out of breath. “Now that introductions are out of the way, maybe you can stop the whole ‘being a criminal’ thing and return what you stole.”
He snorts. “I’ve met some self-righteous hypocrites in my time, but you take the cake.”
“Thank the New God. It’d be a waste of good baking otherwise.”
“Whisper?” A tiny voice interrupts us. We both whirl around to see a little girl standing there, her hair dark tangled and her dress worn through with holes. She looks the same age as Crav—no more than ten or eleven—and she’s barefoot. The thief goes to her instantly, kneeling in front of her and offering the watch.
“Here. I got it. You can sell this to the pawners for a good amount.”
Her hand clenched around the gold watch catches my eye—something like a wound on the back of it, red and scabbing. It’s in a strange pattern, almost as if it was deliberately made. She looks over the thief’s shoulder, and points to me.
“Who’s that, Whisper? A friend?”
“A stalker,” he corrects.
I make a bow with flourish. The girl giggles at it. The sound reminds me so much of Peligli. She starts to walk over to me, but ‘Whisper’ holds her back.
“Don’t,” he says. “She could hurt you.”
“He’s right,” I say. “Never trust strangers. They’re sometimes mean and oftentimes smelly. And occasionally, they’ll even call you a hypocrite.”
“You are one,” he insists.
“Oh, I know. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt.”
He turns to the girl and says something softly. She looks to me, then walks off with the watch in her wounded hand. When she’s gone, I speak.
“You stole it for her, huh? I misjudged you, Whisper.”
His black eyes turn hard, like the edge of a knife. “Why did you follow me?”
“I was bored, and you were making quite the ruckus.”

ABOUT THE BOOK
Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.
Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera’s heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.
Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him—every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him—until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.
So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.
Winner takes the loser’s heart.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sara Wolf is a twenty-something author who adores baking, screaming at her cats, and screaming at herself while she types hilarious things. When she was a kid, she was too busy eating dirt to write her first terrible book. She lives in San Diego with two cats, a crippling-yet-refreshing sense of self-doubt, and not enough fruit tarts ever.
