Fan-Fiction Contest to be Held By OSC

As fans of a great novel we love to imagine further than the storyline of the book. Our minds run wild with our own creativity and go bizerk when we are in love with a story. That is why fan fiction is a sort of release for us when we want to explore further the plot of a delighted book.

Some authors have expressed that they don’t approve of fan fiction (including Orson Scott Card) but since then we have seen an evolving matter within their likes of our stories. The Wall Street Journal writes that:

Some authors’ attitudes toward fan fiction are evolving. After spending years fending off fan fiction, and occasionally sending out “cease and desist” letters through his lawyer to block potential copyright violations, science-fiction novelist Orson Scott Card has started courting fan writers. Mr. Card, author of the best-selling “Ender’s Game” series, is planning to host a contest for “Ender’s Game” fan fiction this fall. Fans will be able to submit their work to his Web site. The winning stories will be published as an anthology that will become part of the official “canon” of the “Ender’s Game” series.

OSC has fully turned around for us. All you writers out there get your computers (or if your old school pen and paper) ready. This is a great chance to immerse yourselves into the world of Ender’s Game and connect with your inner commander (or bugger, which ever you prefer) and come up with a story from your imagination. Hey, maybe we can start a fan fiction post here on Ender’s Game Fandom to get all the great stories that didn’t make it and share it with the fandom. Even though if not chosen, doesn’t mean you aren’t a good writer. Even OSC admires us.

“Every piece of fan fiction is an ad for my book,” Mr. Card says. “What kind of idiot would I be to want that to disappear?”
