FANTASTIC BEASTS 2 has announced an open casting call on Pottermore for five roles, including a previously unknown character.
Young actors, rejoice: Fantastic Beasts 2 needs you. And fans, you can rejoice too: now we have some insight into the next film’s plot. Young versions of Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange, Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, and a new character named Sebastian are being sought. The actors for Newt, Leta, and Sebastian must be between the ages of 13 and 16 years old; actors for Dumbledore and Grindelwald must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years old.
The actors Fantastic Beasts 2 needs strongly imply a couple of things about the plot of the sequel. Number one, we’ll get to see Dumbledore and Grindelwald in their early years. We know some details about their time as friends, such as that little incident when they got into a huge fight and accidentally killed Dumbledore’s younger sister Ariana. Hopefully, Fantastic Beasts 2 will fill in some of the gaps. It’s been speculated that Ariana was an Obscurus like Credence Barebone in the first Fantastic Beasts movie, and J. K. Rowling seems to support this theory, so we might delve deeper into that in this film.
Number two, we will learn more about the mysterious Leta Lestrange, why Newt got expelled from Hogwarts, and how the two of them decided to go their separate ways. All we know at this point is that Newt took the blame for an incident caused by Leta. What happened? How does the new character Sebastian fit into the picture? Given the ages of the actors requested (13-16), it would make sense for the film to show us exactly what went down at Hogwarts.
