Film rights for Jeff Zentner’s THE SERPENT KING optioned

SuVen Harris Entertainment has plans for Jeff Zentner’s coming-of-age YA novel, THE SERPENT KING!

The Serpent King is in development for film and television by SuVen Harris Entertainment in a planned collaboration with Magnolia Entertainment. It will be produced by Matt Sutherland and Brittany Harris, who worked together on the TV series Reelness.

The Serpent King, by young adult author Jeff Zentner, is about teenager named Dill, who is unsure about his life as the son of a strict Pentecostal minister, kept sane only by his two outcast friends. But when the sins of his father comes to light, the consequences fall on Dill and threaten to reshape his entire existence.

Jeff Zentner celebrated with a little zinger on another YA movie adaptation coming soon, Simon Vs Homo Sapiens Agenda, which had its movie title changed to Love, Simon.

Dill has had to wrestle with vipers his whole life at home, as the only son of a Pentecostal minister who urges him to handle poisonous rattlesnakes, and at school, where he faces down bullies who target him for his father’s extreme faith and very public fall from grace.

The only antidote to all this venom is his friendship with fellow outcasts Travis and Lydia. But as they are starting their senior year, Dill feels the coils of his future tightening around him. Dill’s only escapes are his music and his secret feelings for Lydia, neither of which he is brave enough to share. Graduation feels more like an ending to Dill than a beginning. But even before then, he must cope with another ending- one that will rock his life to the core.
