Filming dates on GAMBIT and DEADPOOL 2 set for 2017, plus more X-MEN

Gambit is still a go, and Deadpool 2 is definitely still a go as filming dates were confirmed for both Marvel characters.

Let’s start with Gambit, because there was some speculation on whether or not this movie was going to happen. It had already already been on the shelf for quite some time before Channing Tatum even took interest. There were also some issues in regards to the negotiation process with Tatum.

Then the switching of the directors was somewhat chaotic as first Rupert Wyatt left, and Doug Liman had supposedly left to take on the Chaos Walking adaptation.  However, it seems that may not have been the case, as it was screenwriter Reid Carolin who needed more time to work on the script, thus delaying the project, and giving Limon the way in to work on other projects.  According to Simon Kinberg, they plan to start filming in 2017:

“We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year.”

In regards to the release date of Deadpool 2, Fox hasn’t confirmed a date for it, but Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson aka Deadpool) did give a little tease about it by reposting this Instagram image:

Hmmm…  is this a hint that our favorite cigar-smoking, adamantium-filled mutant and wheel-toting genius mutant professor will be making an appearance in the sequel?  Well, Deadpool did stop by Professor X’s school for gifted children in the first film, so maybe Fox realized they could actually splurge a little more for bigger-billed appearances this time around.

Kinberg didn’t add anything more about it, but did state that production is aimed to start in 2017 as well, before he starts work on the next X-Men movie:

“The first thing up, we’re shooting the Wolverine movie right now and we start shooting Deadpool 2 at the beginning of next year, then I sit down and start writing the next of the mainline X-Men movies.”

Well, that’s about as much information as Kinberg was apparently willing to give on X-Men, but that’s understandable considering the films on his plate already.
