Check out the first MORTAL ENGINES concept art

Peter Jackson revealed new MORTAL ENGINES concept art by adding it as his Facebook account cover photo.

Peter Jackson‘s new cover photo for his Facebook account, shows that of a Mortal Engines concept art. This would be the first concept art we’ve seen for Jackson’s project, which he is producing.

The movie is based off a 4-book series of the same name by Phillip Reeve. Not unlike the Borg, large moving cities, or traction cities, travel around the land searching for smaller cities to “devour” and pretty much absorb into their own.

One of the protagonists is a character named Hester Shaw, shown in the image and will be played by Hera Hilmar (Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons) in the movie.

If you enlarge the image, you can see more details of the predator city, most likely that of London, a major recurring city in the books, with St. Paul’s Cathedral on top. You’ll also notice the flying ships that surround the city, giving off more of that steampunk vibe.

Mortal Engines will be directed by Christian Rivers, with a screenplay written by Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Phillippa Boyens. The movie stars Hilmar, Robert Sheehan (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones), Hugo Weaving (Hacksaw Ridge), Ronan Raftery (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Leila George, and Stephen Lang (AMC’s Into the Badlands). It is currently in production in New Zealand and is scheduled to hit theaters December `4, 2018.
