Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker has signed on to play a political figure in the Ryan Coogler-directed BLACK PANTHER.
Forest Whitaker, who won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for The Last King of Scotland, has joined the cast of Black Panther.
His role for the Marvel movie is of an elder statesman in Wakanda named Zuri. We don’t know how significant his role in the film is going to be, but considering the already outstanding cast, he’ll be among fine company.
Two other actors have been announced in the casting.
Daniel Kaluuya and Florence Kasumba will be playing W’Kabi and Ayo, respectively.
W’Kabi is a personal confidant of the T’Challa aka Black Panther. And Ayo, a member of the Dora Milaje, was previously seen on Captain America: Civil War as T’Challa’s bodyguard.
You’ll be able to see Whitaker in next month’s sci-fi drama Arrival, and then in December in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Kaluuya is currently working on a revised animated version of Watership Down. Kasumba will actually be part of both Marvel and DC universes as she’ll be in next year’s Wonder Woman movie.
