FOX Changes Release Dates For DEADPOOL 2, NEW MUTANTS, and GAMBIT

DEADPOOL moves up, NEW MUTANTS moves back, and GAMBIT is not quite dead yet.

In the midst of a major corporate shake-up as Disney takes over the reigns following a massive buyout, 20th Century Fox is changing up some of their release dates, seemingly to meet a more Disney-friendly schedule, according to ComingSoon.net.

To start, Deadpool 2 has moved up a couple weeks from June 1, 2018 to May 18, 2018. This means most eager moviegoers will have a chance to see the flick before the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25, 2018, easing the competition between the two.

New Mutants has been moved back a whopping 10 months from April 13, 2018 to February 22, 2019, leading to plenty of rumors. However, the movie only started filming in July, so it’s possible the delay offers the CGI-heavy film more time in post-production. There’s also the threat of Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One, which releases March 30th, which is expected to be a box office juggernaut. Disney has one major film releasing every month from May and December of 2018, which likely prompted the decision to go all the way into 2019.

Meanwhile, Gambit starring Channing Tatum is not quite dead yet. The film’s latest director, Gore Verbinski, just dropped out, however (perhaps thanks to a rough history with the House of Mouse following the spectacularly expensive bomb that was The Lone Ranger) and the film has been delayed from February 14, 2019 to June 7, 2019 in the aftermath.
