Fox’s X-MEN universe takes a hit as more delays are announced.
20th Century Fox is showing great caution with its upcoming Marvel releases as another round of schedule reshuffling delays both New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
New Mutants was originally scheduled to be released next week, but was moved to February 22, 2019 in January. However, according to EW, the film has been moved once again, this time to August 2, 2019.
Star Anna-Taylor Joy, who plays Magik in the film, said reshoots are scheduled and the film will add a new character, which likely means the studio wanted more from the story.
“Hopefully, all of these reshoots and adding of the new character that will give the fans an altogether satisfactory, wonderful product,” she told The Playlist.
Meanwhile, X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘s prime November 2, 2018 release slot is being handed to the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody while the X-Men film moves to February 14, 2019. Fox didn’t give a reason for the change, but one can assume they were simply looking to put Rhapsody in an awards season position that Dark Phoenix didn’t necessarily need.
Well, at least there’s something new to anticipate in 2019!
