Francis Lawrence eyeing BATTLESTAR GALACTICA movie

Francis Lawrence, who directed Catching Fire and Mockingjay movies, it looking to direct the Battlestar Galactica movie.

The Battlestar Galactica movie is in the works!  Yes, it’s been in the works for a while, but it seems that it’s moving forward this time, with Lisa Joy, writer and executive producer of HBO’s upcoming new series Westworld, writing the script.

And it has also been announced that Francis Lawrence is looking to direct the feature film.  Lawrence is most currently known for directing the popular Hunger Games films, sans the first film which was directed by Gary Ross.  According to Deadline, his next project is spy thriller Red Sparrow, which will star Hunger Games’ actress Jennifer Lawrence.

Given the popularity of the re-imagined 2003 miniseries and the subsequent 2004 series of Battlestar Galactica, this brings up the question of which version of the series will the movie be based on?

There's a Battlestar Galactica movie in the works

I’ve watched both the 70s and the 00s shows and I loved both of them during its time on air.  I’m curious to see how Joy will be able to make this unique and successful in its own way.  Having written for Westworld, an HBO original series based off the 1973 movie of the same name, this seems to be her niche.
