Disney’s Frozen made it’s way back to the top of the North American box office this past weekend, edging out the latest film in the Paranormal Activity franchise, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Frozen has now made just under $640 million worldwide, pushing it past Tangled’s ultimate gross of $592 million. It’s domestic total in its sixth weekend, $297 million, puts in it third place for top grossing movies in six weeks, right behind Avatar and Titanic.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug came in third place with a weekend total of $16.3 million and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire maintained a spot in the top ten, coming in ninth with a weekend haul of $7.4 million. Catching Fire‘s domestic gross has now reached just over $407 million, about $500k shy of meeting the first film’s total domestic gross, which it is almost certain to exceed. Its worldwide total is now at $830 million, which is over $130 million more than the first film, and just $170 million shy of one billion dollars–a mark that some predicted the film would reach.
