GAMBIT has reportedly found its female lead in French actress Lea Seydoux!
After earning indie cred in Blue Is The Warmest Color and The Grand Budapest Hotel, Lea Seydoux cemented herself in movie history as a Bond girl in the upcoming film Spectre. Now, she’s reportedly set to play the female lead opposite Channing Tatum in Gambit!
Deadline reports that the shortlist for the film included Lea Seydoux, Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee, and Rebecca Ferguson from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. However, Rebecca Ferguson dropped out to join The Girl On The Train, at which time FOX officially offered the role to Seydoux.
Assuming the offer goes through, the actress will be playing Bella Donna Boudreaux, a love interest of Gambit and Remy LeBeau from his childhood who comes from a rival guild in New Orleans– she’s from the Assassins Guild while he’s from the Thieves Guild. She has power over astral projections and plasma blasts. Though Bella Donna is very much in love with Gambit and the two are married at one point in the comics, the two often find themselves at odds thanks to a wonderful combination of abandonment issues and street politics. No word yet on how their relationship might play out in the film.
Gambit is expected in theaters on October 7, 2016.
