AGE OF HEROES will shed new light on the fantasy world of Westeros!
Last spring, it was revealed that HBO was already considering at least one spinoff to fill the gap of its biggest series ever, Game of Thrones, which will begin its final season in 2019. In fact, FIVE different spinoffs were in development. Recently, it was announced that one of the spinoffs is definitely coming our way!
Age of Heroes, a prequel series written by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin, will take place in Westeros thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Here’s the official logline thanks to Entertainment Weekly:
“The series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”
It looks like we’ll still see a few distant histories from the novels play out– like the foundation of the Houses and the building of The Wall– but with twists and a completely new cast.
Meanwhile, George R.R. Martin took to his blog to tell audiences that with this greenlight, another Game of Thrones spinoff has been “shelved”.
“As for the other successor shows… if you have been following along, you know that we started with four, and eventually went to five. One of those has been shelved, I am given to understand, and of course Jane’s pilot is now moving to film. But that does not mean the others are dead. Three more GAME OF THRONES prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development. Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come.”
A premiere timeframe for the new series has not been announced.
