GAME OF THRONES Stars React to 24 Emmy Nominations, Talk Season 6 Scripts

After a show record of 24 Emmy nominations the GAME OF THRONES cast is sharing their joy!

Setting a record of 19 nods just wasn’t enough for Game of Thrones, so this year the Television Academy recognized the show with a whopping 24 Emmy nominations! The new record was quite the shock for the cast, who talked to Variety about their excitement.

Emilia Clarke on the nomination and going up against Lena Headey:

“It feels bloody amazing. I wholeheartedly believe that she deserves it much, much more than I do. She’s one of the finest actors ever, and I’ve grown up on the show admiring her and going to her for advice, so it’s really bloody amazing, because she puts her heart out there, and every season … she gives it so much. It’s brilliant. I want everyone on ‘Game of Thrones’ to be nominated for something.”

Lena Headey was equally enthusiastic:

“Two for one, ‘Game of Thrones’! It’s great, it’s gonna be great to be up there with Emilia — to finally have two of us in a category, two women, it’s very cool. I need to talk to her about that; I need to call her and say well done.”

Headey says she was up all night with her newborn daughter who “may have known something” she didn’t, in a bit of a fog when she got the call. Clarke, hilariously, was in the waiting room of her *ahem* lady doctor when she found out the good news.

Besides her castmates, Emilia Clarke says she’s especially rooting for another team on the show:

“Our writers, David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] and Bryan [Cogman], they’re all so amazing, so I’m desperately hoping they get recognized for their skills.”

The Daenerys Targaryen actress also promises that things will be intense from the get-go in Season 6:

“I’m looking forward to absolutely every part of it, it’s like go-go-go from episode one,” Clarke said. “You know how sometimes it’s like, ‘we’re just going to remind you and warm you up: remember this and remember that and I bet you forgot his name …’ sort of thing? It’s literally like ‘oh yeah, no chance to catch up, here you go, we’re just gonna hit you with it every episode, with something more mental than the last.’ I’m like a kid having a sugar high — I can’t handle how sick these scripts are.”

Well, we’ll see how many Emmy nominations Season 6 can wrangle up soon enough!
