GAME OF THRONES Showrunners Wowed by IMAX Screening

HBO’s Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss got a chance to see the episodes on the IMAX screen and their reaction to is pretty positive, according to the featurette above.

“I’m still kind of in shock,” Weiss said in the above exclusive clip after watching a private preview screening. “It’s a completely different viewing experience, one that’s so immersive and so superior.”

And as you can tell from the re-edited for IMAX featurette above, it definitely looks like it would be a great way to watch this awesome series.

Emmy-nominated composer Ramin Djawadi also got to see it and was ecstatic to hear his music in the surround-sound theater.  Rightly so.

“Ramin’s fingerprints are all over this show,” Benioff said, and Weiss added, “If you have a 25-foot mammoth attacking a 700-foot wall, you better have the music that can shoulder that image.”

The experience is sure to be grand as fans will be clustered together in the hundreds to watch the episodes.  And if you haven’t watched an episodes in a group setting, you just might want to start doing so after watching it on the big screen.

“The communal experience of being surrounded by other people who are gasping at the same moments is the way it’s really meant to be seen,” Benioff noted. “To feel like you’re there is just something you don’t get while watching on television.”

Even IMAX CEO Greg Foster found the series to be much more than a TV show, as far as visually is concerned.

“I know everybody calls Thrones a television show, but it looks like a movie,” said IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster. “It’s unbelievably cinematic. It blew us away.”

According to EW, the pre-sales for the screenings have been strong, and some theaters have sold out on some of them, which I expected to be the case.  And apparently fans even unintentionally crashed the IMAX site on three occasions.

Yes, that’s what fans do.  And that’s why we’re going to see Game of Thrones on IMAX even if we’ve already seen it before.

IMAX Screenings for the Game of Thrones final 2 episodes “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” start tomorrow night at 10pm in IMAX theaters around North America.
