THE ACCOUNTANT Director To Write, Helm SUICIDE SQUAD 2

After weeks of rumors, SUICIDE SQUAD 2 has found its director!

Gavin O’Connor, the director behind Warrior and The Accountant, is taking the helm of one of DC Entertainment’s major sequels, Suicide Squad 2.

The original Suicide Squad film, directed by David Ayer, received mixed reviews but racked up a $745 million box office take worldwide, warranting a sequel from Warner Bros. Meanwhile, Ayer opted out of another round of Suicide Squad in favor of another Warner Bros. DC property, Gotham City Sirens.

The studio courted Mel Gibson and Jaume Collett-Serra for the director’s role before deciding on O’Connor, according to Variety. He’s directed several films, but never a franchise tentpole. He’ll also be doing a new draft of the script originally written by Zach Penn.

Due to actors’ schedules, filming on Suicide Squad 2 is not expected to begin until Fall 2018.
