HBO isn’t taking any chances, as they’re now developing a fifth GAME OF THRONES spinoff!
News broke about four potential Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works at HBO last week and this week, series author George R.R. Martin announced that the number of developing projects has grown.
Via LiveJournal post, Martin says ideas for another new show cropped up during his time working with all four of the previously announced writers in Los Angeles.
We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.
While Martin wouldn’t confirm what the possible spinoffs are about, he did confirm two plot lines that they are not about– Dunk & Egg (aka Ser Duncan and King Aegon Targaryen) and Robert’s Rebellion, the latter of which will get more background later in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, according to the author.
Martin also pointed out that while five scripts are being developed, it’s very unlikely that all of the spinoffs will make it to series or even film a pilot.
And yes, he’s still working on Winds of Winter, so patience remains key!
