Two new villains and a major influencer join GOTHAM!
Gotham is promising villainy and some major backstory with the casting of three new actors for Season 2, including baddies Mr. Freeze and Hugo Strange!
Nathan Darrow (House of Cards) will play notorious Batman villain Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze. We’ll also see Kristen Hager as his wife, Nora Fries, who is a pivotal part of the character’s development. For about 40 years, Mr. Freeze had no backstory, but that all changed when Nora was introduced in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series and his deeper purpose was revealed.
From this description, it looks like Gotham will follow the Victor/Nora backstory pretty closely:
“Though ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora, who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain, Mr. Freeze.”
BD Wong will also be wreaking havoc on the city as Professor Hugo Strange, who uses gruesome experiments to terrorize the citizens and hires a gang of thieves to do his bidding using his scientific devices to distract, disable, or kill victims as needed.
In the comics, Hugo Strange is one of the first recurring villains to ever exist, pre-dating some of the more classically popular bad guys. He’s also the first villain to discover that Bruce Wayne is actually Batman.
Mr. Freeze will make his first appearance on November 20th, but there’s no word yet on when we can expect the other characters.
